RDF Welcome page

Welcome spiralcone antenna users and everyone interested in radio direction finding.

The SpiralCone RDF antenna, and more commonly the ERSA Space antenna is a new invention, has only been on the market for 6 months, and is advancing in popularity and common use.

The ERSA is a building block, it is the smallest helical antenna we can make and still have an efficiency in operation, and a great sensitivity . If you have instruction manual one, you can see how to add accessories to make it a formidable deep space Radio Astronomy antenna. But it does well all by itself as a portable unit.
Few manufacturers, if any, are offering Helical wound receiving antennas to the general public.
NASA has been using them for decades. There is a huge amount of circularly polarized waves both on our terrestrial planet, and coming down from outer space.  With our little ERSA's, we are making discoveries and opening a big can of worms. Along with snakes, climbing plants and the DNA helix, a whole lotta stuff on planet earth moves, grows, and exists in a helical pattern.

When ever we make a new discovery or come up with a universal experiment ( one all ERSA users can repeat), we post it on youtube as soon as we can make a decent video.  I also try to incorporate experiments into the Manuals, one and two.  It is a goal to keep the SpiralCone in the scientific spot light, showing how the unit is a true sensor and not a novelty that makes funny noise.

Please join our club, and share your photos of the ERSA's in operation, wherever you may live and work.
You can upload to the email and we will post on the youtube site. thank you so much- Edward
